Shopping
at the Supermarket
My parent usually do the weekly supermarket shopping
together. Last week my father had to work late and my mother asked me to go
with her. I hate shopping, but I said yes.
There were a lot of cars in the car park a long way from
the entrance. It was pouring and we got very wet.
The first trolley we chose would no go properly. There
was something wrong with one of the wheels. I had to go and get another one.
The aisles in the supermarket were very crowded. It was
difficult to get around. Someone bumped into Mum. She was carrying a bottle of
juice and she dropped it. There was a mess all over the floor. A shop assistant
came to clean it. Mum was very embarrassed.
Mum bought a lot things, such as fruit, bread, butter,
and our trolley was very full. After a long wait at the checkout we paid and
went to the car. We could not find the car key. We had locked the car with the
key inside! We had to wait for Dad to bring a spare key. I’ll never go on a
trip to the supermarket again!

Totto-chan
The
Little Girl at the Window
It is probably one of the most important books I’ve ever
read. Not for its heavy philosophy, practical instruction, or memorable quotes.
But for its simple message of how wonderful life can be when viewed through the
eyes of an innocent child.
Each strory is only a page or two, each a delightful
narrative of how Totto-chan views the
world, and how Mr. Kuroyanagi inspires the children to explore, learn, feel and
have joy. There are several charcoal drawings that tenderness of the stories,
making us feel a part of Totto-chan’s world.
One of our favorite vignettes is the story of her losing
her hat in the septic tank at the school, and proceeds to dig out. The
headmaster walks by, and after a few questions to satisfy his curiosity, and
hearing her earnest explanation. He les her continue with the simple instruction,
”make sure you put it all back!”
Totto-chan,The Little Girl at the Window is a celebration
of childhood, learning and caring. We’ve enjoyed reading one or two stories for
bedtime off and on for a couple of years. And almost don’t want to finish the
book because it will mean there are no more stories. Totto-chan seem so real
and loveable. Her headmaster is a role model for parent and teacher.

Why
the Cat Kills Rats
Long time ago, there lived Ansa. He was the king of
Calabar for fifty years. He had a very faithful cat as a housekeeper, and a rat
was his house-boy. The king was an obstinate, headstrong man. But was very fond
of the cat, who had been in his store for many years.
The rat, who was very poor, fell in love with one of
king’s servant girl, but was unable to give her any present, as he had no
money.
At last he thought of the king’s store, so in the
night-time, being quite small. He had little difficulty, having made a hole in
the roof, in getting into the store. He then stole corn and native pears, and
presented them to his sweetheart.
At the end of the month, when the cat had to render her
account of the things in the store to the king, it was found that a lot of corn
and native pears were missing. The king was very angry at this, and asked the
cat for an explanation. But the cat could not account for the loss, until one
of her friends told her that the rad had been stealing the corn and giving it
to the girl.
When the cat told the king, he called the girl before him
and had her flogged. The rat he handed over to the cat to deal with, and dismissed
them both from his service. The cat so very angry at this that she killed and
ate the rat, and ever since that time whenever a cat sees a rat she kills and
eats it.

The
Smartest Parrot
Once upon time, a man had a wonderful parrot. There was
no other parrot like it. The parrot could say every word, except one word. The
parrot would not say the name of the place was Catano. The man felt excited
having the smartest parrot but he could not understand why the parrot would not
say Catano. The man tried to teach the bird to say Catano however the bird kept
not saying the word.
At the first, the man was very nice to the bird but then
he got very angry. “You stupid bird!” pointed the man to the parrot. “Why can’t
you say the word? Say Catano! Or I kill you” the man said angrily. Although he
tried hard to teach, the parrot would not say it. That the man got so angry and
shouted to the bird over and over, “ Say Catano or I’ll kill you.”. The bird
kept not to say the word of Catano.
One day, after he had been trying so many times to make
the bird say Catano, the man really got very angry. He could not bear it. He
picket the parrot and threw it into chicken house. There were for old chickens
for next dinner “You are stupid as the chickens. Just stay with them” Said the
man angrily. Then he continued to humble; ”You know, I will cut the chicken for
my meal. Next it will be your turn, I will eat you too, stupid parrot”. After
that he left the chicken house.
The next day, the man came back to the chicken house. He
opened the door and was very surprised. He could not believe what he saw at the
chicken house. There were three death chicken on the floor. At the moment, the
parrot was standing proudly and screaming the last old chicken; “Say Catano or
I’ll kill you”.

TEXT 5
Consuming
Fresh Food Instead of Canned Foods
Eating is an activity that we as humans do at least two
times a day. We live in a world where the variety of food is immense, and we
are responsible for what we eat. We decide what we are about to eat and how it
will affect our bodies. The purpose of this essay is to compare and contrast
the differences between eating fresh foods instead of canned foods. The three
main differences are flavor, health benefits, and cost.
The most notable difference between these two kinds of
food is their flavor. Fresh foods have great flavor and taste because they keep
all their natural conditions. Canned foods however, lack a lot of its flavor
characteristics because there are some other chemical products added to the
natural foods. It is logical that the fresh foods will have a greater taste and
flavor when consumed just because of the time in which they have been prepared.
Comparing both types of foods we notice another
difference. There is a health factor that affects both of them. Canned foods
lose some of the original fresh food nutrients when stored, and also it has to
be tinned with many conservatives and chemical factors that prolong the shelf
live and apparent freshness of the food but could also become toxic if consumed
too often.
Yet another difference between these two types of foods
is the cost. Canned foods are much more expensive than fresh foods. Here the
benefit of buying tinned foods is that they are easier to find, for example, in
a supermarket instead of the market like the fresh foods, and they require less
work to prepare than fresh foods, just open and serve.
Here are the main three differences between buying fresh
foods and buying canned foods. As we can see it comes down to a personal
choice, based on the time each person has, the money and the importance he /
she gives to his /her nutrition and health. Therefore it is important that you
consider your possibilities and choose the best type of foods for your
convenience and lifestyle.
